👎Your Intelligence DOESN'T MATTER!
It's what you're doing on a daily basis...
Have you ever felt stupid after failing or performing poorly in an exam?
Do you feel like an idiot when you get a question wrong or can’t understand a concept?
If you answer ‘yes’ to the above, I have great news for you…
Your grades and ATAR have NOTHING to do with your intellect. Zero. Zilch.
I used to believe that your grades were a direct result of your natural talents and intellect.
Bad grades = you’re stupid
Good grades = you’re smart
However, one day something happened to me that completely changed my mindset…
I found the truth…
I discovered something that would truly change my entire life.
It was the start of year 11 and I had a maths exam coming up. I decided that for the first time, I was going to put my 100% effort into smashing this exam.
And so… that’s what I did.
Every single day I woke up at 5:00 am (sometimes 4:00 am) and studied very hard. I was so determined to finally prove to everyone that I could succeed in school.
I consistently studied for this maths exam way before everyone else did and I was certain that I was going to get full marks…
But what did I end up getting?
70%
Yup…after studying so hard and putting in my all, I got 70%.
And no, it wasn’t like the top mark was 80%.
The top mark was 100%, and multiple people got 90% and above (I know someone who barely even studied and somehow beat me).
At that moment, I felt extremely stupid.
I thought I couldn’t do well in maths
But, after almost giving up, I removed my emotions and asked myself:
What did I actually do wrong to mess up in this exam?
I sat down for hours and just literally analysed exactly what I did to prepare for this maths exam.
And after doing so, I realised that I had studied for the exam completely wrong.
I was studying hard…but not smart.
And so, after extracting lessons from this exam I did badly on, I implemented a new strategy for my next exam…
And what do I get in my next exam?
100%.
Guess what I got in the exam after that?
100%
And the next exam?
100%
Your marks have nothing to do with your intellect.
It’s got nothing to do with your natural talents.
The only things that contribute to good or bad grades are the following:
Mindset
Methods
Action
and that’s it.
You must truly believe in your heart that you can succeed in school. How do you expect to drastically improve in maths, when in the back of your mind you don’t believe it’s possible?
Believe that you can achieve ANYTHING you put your mind towards.
Then, once you’ve adopted this belief and strong mindset, you MUST STUDY PROPERLY.
This one is huge…
There are so many students out there who study hard for their exams using the most inefficient study methods ever.
They just take pretty notes, highlight their textbook, watch videos, and think that they're well-prepared - little do they know, they are extremely underprepared.
Once you’ve learned how to study properly, you then MUST TAKE ACTION!
This one is the most obvious:
If you don’t take action, then don’t complain about your poor results.
Stop being an observer,
Stop complaining that you’re stupid or you’re ‘not good at maths’,
Stop hoping and wishing,
And just PUT IN THE WORK!
It’s that simple.
