The Stepping Stones to Your Goal ATAR...

Failure is success in progress.
Hey there,
In todayās newsletter, I am going to explain to you why failure is your best teacher and how you can use it to your advantage and get closer to success.
Many students see failure as a bad thingā¦
They mess up one assessment task and BOOM ā theyāve lost all hope to achieve their ambitious ATAR.
They fail a maths exam and BOOM ā they now apparently suck at maths and are āstupidā.
Does this sound like you?
Do you see failure as something thatās bad?
Do you fear failure?
Well, if your answer is āyesā to any of those questions, I completely understand.
I used to be the exact same.
However, once I changed my mindset on failure I went from getting 70% to 100% in my exams.
I went from D-student to 95+ ATAR.
I went from the bottom of the class to DUX of the year.
I now want you to do the same, so letās do this!
Failure is your friend
Let me just get straight to the point and ask you something:
If you donāt fail, how in the world will you improve?!
If you donāt mess up that maths exam or do poorly in your essay, how will you get better at those subjects?
It doesnāt make any sense right?
There are so many students that come up to me and say things like āI didnāt do well in term 1. I got 50% in my assessment tasksā
And they are upset.
They are worried.
They throw their dreams of scoring a high ATAR out the window (even though they were super confident at one point!).
You must understand that when you fail at anything, youāre given an opportunity to learn and grow!
Failure teaches you what you need to fix to get to the next level and achieve success.
And think about it for a minuteā¦
The success in your life has been a result of your past failures!
Let me give you some examples
When you were a baby, you failed to walk. You tried, then fell. You tried, then fell. But what happened eventually?
When you were learning how to ride a bike, did you not fall multiple times?
Think back to the amount of times youāve actually failed but then ended up succeeding.
Why not apply this to your school work?
Iāve missed more than 9000 shots in my career.
Iāve lost almost 300 games.
26 times, Iāve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed.
Iāve failed over and over and over again in my life.
And that is why I succeed
The difference between top and low-performing students
Both top and low-performing students fail.
Failure is inevitable ā whatever failure means to you (i.e. a āfailā for one person might not necessarily be the same āfailā for another).
But whatās the difference between the top- and low-performing students?
Itās their reaction.
Top-performing students get back up and use their failures to improve for the future.
Low-performing students stay down and try to ignore their failures. They donāt confront them and use them to get better.
Itās that simple.
How you should look at failure
Failure is a stepping stone to success.
Without failing in some way, shape, or form, you cannot succeed.
FAILURE IS YOUR BEST TEACHER!
So the next time you fail, instead of getting annoyed by it and feeling despair, understand this:
Reflect & ask yourself:
āWhat lessons can I learn from this?ā
And when you do fail, do not EVER say:
āI am a failureā
Say:
āI failed, but for a good reason. Letās figure out this reason so that I can improveā
When you redefine failure like this, youāll get closer to success!

ā Action Steps to Take
Learn from your past failures ā if you didnāt do well in any of your assessment tasks so far, donāt just throw them off to the side and move on. Analyse them, analyse yourself and figure out why you didnāt do well. Then, improve from there.
Change your language ā the next time you fail, donāt say āI am failureā and get upset about it. Instead, say āI failed for a good reason. Letās figure out this reasonā.
